ABOUT WEST RIVER KARATE

West River Karate is a community-focused dojo in Vancouver dedicated to teaching traditional Hayashi Ryu Karate-Do while helping students build confidence, discipline, and respect. Founded in 2006, the dojo offers a welcoming environment for children, teens, and beginners, with programs designed to support both personal growth and technical development. With an emphasis on perseverance, etiquette, and long-term mentorship, West River Karate has become a trusted space where students not only learn martial arts but also develop valuable life skills that extend far beyond the dojo.

Little Ninja’s Karate

This program helps preschool-aged children develop motor and listening skills in a safe, friendly environment. Students learn basic punches, kicks, and forms while building confidence, discipline, and positive habits.

Novice Karate

This program introduces the fundamentals of traditional karate for ages 6 and up in a supportive environment. Students build technique, coordination, and confidence while developing discipline, etiquette, and respect.

meet sensei Kenny Lim

Sensei Kenny Lim is a Vancouver-based karate instructor and founder of West River Karate. Established in 2006,  the school is known for combining a strong competitive foundation with a focus on youth development and character building. A proven champion at a young age, Sensei Kenny teaches the hard work ethic, respect, and perseverance needed to advance in both karate and in life. Teaching the Hayashi Ryu Karate-Do system, he has built a community-centered program that develops students from beginners into disciplined, confident individuals through long-term mentorship, emphasizing personal growth alongside technical skill.
